Post Your thoughts on FOV
I've noticed a lot (and I mean a lot) of people talking about FOV during AOW matches recently. It seems like some people think that FOV ruins the game and makes aiming and sniping at 800>ft EZmode (which is what I think) and those who think that it's good for scouting, "that the lag makes you miss all the time anyways", and is "needed for mechs".

The biggest trigger to this response is the way that the gauss rifle, among other weapons, make the game slow to a crawl due to 5+ enemies setting up camp outside of your door and then gaussfagging any attempts to retaliate.

Yes, even having a ton of your own gaussers and a bunch of things like titans and juggernauts doesn't help. I've been on both ends of that situation dozens of times and personally, neither is fun.

So I'm just curious as to what you folks have to say. Should FOV be disabled, or not?

Note: Of course, this is assuming some weapons get their own built-in scopes, like a 4x-8x zoom Sniper Rifle and such.

Yes, built in scope is needed to avoid this such problem. Shooting someone miles away using is Gauss is OP and how the hell you should fight back

Why would they not just do the same with snipers?

It's less likely - it takes more time to reload than guass and it doesn't have an anti mech attack. I vote for no fovs

Heh, last night is a good example, everyone including me was just outside the base in AOW15, Gauss camping, as well as a bit of sniping from the back of the caves.

Also got working scope code :D
And you can only stay scoped while you are still or moving very slowly.
And also "I am the best!"

Of course, maybe a new "weapon" could be added that all classes could get: Binoculars so people can see what's going on far away (Thanks Konda for the idea). Possibly. Something like Halo's, maybe 3x zoom or so. However, they gotta switch weapons to a gun if they want to actually shoot.

It's just that FOV causes firefights to become far too long-range based since it's so much easier than medium or close combat. Also, another thing is, it makes people who don't know about FOV rage as they get sniped from across the map and don't know why or how.

Basically, this is to get people to actually move and fight head-on instead of teams taking turns at camping each others' bases for an hour. Which, don't lie, is usually exactly what happens.

Another problem is that such long range fighting puts those who are on low resolution monitors at a disadvantage.

That was my idea. >:F

I personally want to get rid of FOV for obvious reasons but need to have every single facet of the cube covered first as this would be a pretty fucking drastic change for obvious reasons.

Without FOV the heavy gauss of juggernaut would have had a much lower efficiency on range too due to the thing you cant aim as easy on range then.

I still think a Laser Chaingun especially without FOV would be good H. Gauss replacement for juggernaut.
Laser Chaingun is a cool weapon and has quite low damage and you would have something for infantry which doesnt kill it so fast :)

Some people never change. Nothing is a better example than heavy guass, huh?

If you mean adding fov to LCG, it'd pointless, LCG doesn't have that high range so it doesn't really need FOV.

why you always write gauss as guass lol.

And whats wrong that I say it?
Also I mentioned Laser chaingun replacement and not about getting the h.gauss back. (Sure I wouldnt mind to have it back, but thats not what I wrote - And laser chaingun would be very nice too)

PS: Please stop small fonts... ty. small fonts have no sense at all.

No I didnt mean that.. my post wasnt clear ?

With Laser Chaingun and without FOV its imo a very good h.gauss replacement for juggernaut. Laser chaingun is a cool weapon and you have sth for infantry with juggernaut.

Nothing wrong with you saying it, it's just you say it whenever you get the chance, all the time, which is getting really annoying by the way because the only way jugger is gonna have guass back is if voltlock's grandson leads the project in 2123.
About gauauauuauauass, I misread the weapon name 4 years ago when it was implemented in AOW1, so I got used to it.
Oh and by the way, this is a FOV suggestion thread, I C U TRYN 2 CHAENG SUBJACT 2 JUGGA SNIPA WEP SUGGESTION.

EDIT: hi i am small fonts and what is this. oh by the way inb4 split

Jugger is a heavy assault mech, not an anti everything mech.
So, i don't think it should be changed.

Anyway Nightfall, i'll upload the sniper to the SVN later on today.
If it is already there, it is outdated.

Also DeMoN, didn't i ask you to stop posting about the jugger?

if FOV is voted to be disabled things change here too. And I see no problem then in a damn weak Laser Chaingun then o.o

However I'll stay with my friends and such on 1491. It is the best AOW for me and my friends so far. (But newer versions have some good changes too though, especially the ion bomb at blue jug, terrorist class and so on are some of the many good changes, but there are some that I dont like too, as you know already ^^.

Its just my opinion. sorry.

But you shouldnt have to use nukes for some infantry on even mid-range. Try to hit with Jug some infantry on AOW04. Good luck^^
On C&C are the anti tank classes also not completely lost on a infantry guy.
Low damage to infantry is ok, but not having problems to do any damage to them.

You get a whole lot more players on aow2 than you would find in renegade.
Get someone to cover you, it is not that hard.

I believe the Juggernaut needs a completely new arsenal since atm it's just a bulk of metal stuffed with tons of (mostly useless) weapons. It has no purpose at all except perhaps trying to look scary and intimidating with its nuke.

Back on FOV, though... we got a scope on sniper rifle. I guess laser chaingun should get one too? What about the Rifle? Its altfire fires a grenade.
