Post A discussion of the changes veterans hated.
Ok. You know I find it ironic that the things that I was sarcastically complaining about are the things the developers actually changed. In this topic I would like us to discuss exactly why we think the changes made players leave AoW.

I will keep an edited list of the changes.

Code:
. Obelisks
. Removal of stealth snipers
. Removal of oldschool renegade
. Removal of Timecop speed boost
. Removal of suicide bomber
. Return of suicide bomber that has been modified
. Missile launchers
. The Utility Gun menu
. Five minute delay on C4 usage.
. Removal of fire and phosphorous grenades for granadier class.

Holy crap, old veterans! Are you out of your fucking mind? If those "veterans" don't like such changes, they're really not veterans. They're a bunch of spammers, and spamming is what we're up against. And yes, these changes seems to make more players leave AOW2, which is very nice indeed because only spammers and idiots can't stand them. This is the perfect way to clean skulltag from kids and get things back to normal like they were 5 years ago.

This thread is going to be treated really badly unless you specify why exactly these changes are bad and make a valid point.

To be frank, the mod itself is OLD. Over two years old, and that's not counting pre-Omega OR All Out War 1's lifetime. That alone is reason enough for the playerbase to dwindle a bit.

And we didn't change them because you said so. Are you serious? We changed them because we recorded polls taken and took criticism from players in servers and amongst our testers and dev team. Doing those things has helped our mod stay afloat among the sea of other servers and mods, even despite its very old age.

You see, the players who left because of things like invisible, untrackable snipers, anti-cheesing C4 measures, and the "removal" of elemental grenades ( they're still there :v ) only played because they liked to be OP and dominate people on an uneven playing field. They're the kind of people who for example, only played with the Tomislav on TF2 when it was ridiculously OP, and then bitching and ragequitting TF2 forever when it was made reasonable. Those changes were not made blindly and after giving them a few match's time, players did realize the positive effect they had and we did get praise. Only a small, very vocal minority does continue to complain about such changes. We don't need those sorts of players.

Although I do agree that the gameplay can get stale when teams are locked in a stalemate without either team able to do anything, I personally think that the more experienced and creative Utility users are to blame for such stalemates, since bases can be neigh unbreakable with lines upon lines of sandbags. Mechs also seem a bit weak, even if escorted. That's for another thread, however.

You speak as though up and coming new players haven't replaced the older "veterans."

The only ones of those that I actually care about were the removal of stealth snipers and the readdition of suicide bombers, both of which I hated. Stealth snipers made counter-sniper duty fun, and I guess I just don't like suicide bombers.

The suicide bomber was readded (was that my suggestion, or did I support it?), just like the elemental grenades.

As for stealth snipers, I mean I was "alright" (albeit they were annoying) with them back when they were about 80% invisible, because then you at least had a chance to see them with a keen eye.
After Omega came and made them 100% invisible, they were totally fucking ass overpowered, and deserved to be removed.

...

What if stealth sniper was re-added with the fuzz effect?? Though naturally the menu change has to come first.

I really don't want to see that class again. The reason they were made 100% invisible was because people found a way to make that 80% translucenty look like 0% translucenty, IIRC.
Even normal snipers just camp. Until they get too annoying and you decide to go stealth with a chainsaw. Any kind of translucenty will encourage more camping. It's their fault for not changing places at times IMO.

I don't know if the fuzz effect is very invisible, but it sounds maybe worth a try. Although, IIRC OpenGL renders the fuzz effect as translucency anyway, which leads to the same old problem. Or did you mean as inaccuracy for monsters?

No, there's no monsters in my point. I just don't want to see that class ever again. Stealth snipers are the worst thing that has ever happened to AOW. You might have forgotten the days when they were in, but I have not. 80% of the players were stealth snipers, as if they couldn't be more impossible to kill in such wide open wild west huge maps. What the hell is wrong with you people?

I'm just keeping an open mind and throwing ideas, that's all. :)

Because of the nature of the thread I'm just going to abyss this out. Going around acting like you know everything and any changes you don't like is objectively wrong does not help your case FYI.
