Although this has happened to 2 players at different times of a single game, there maybe other incidents of this issue. A screenshot can be found below. Papi and I are both on the blue team, and we both get vaporized by the "Blue Obelisk":

We discussed this on IRC - apparently there is no demo to provide debugging information. Unless this happens again with a reliable way of reproduction, there's nothing that really can be done aside from hoping that it won't happen again.

When the obelisk targets a mech, it fires a far more powerful shot than if it were targeting infantry, and the splash damage to match.

It's not unheard of to be near a mech being zapped and ending up being caught in the splash. It's easily enough to kill an infantryman.
