Post Eclipse/Hell crate
Like Moon Physics existed some versions of aow ago, what do you think of eclipse crate that will darken the map and make it bluish making combat difficult like it's night. Hell crate makes map looks red and some spooky-evil soundtrack is loaded. Also hell crate reduce map gamma and make it little darker.

Problem I see with that is that almost every sector has to have a tag to adjust the brightness of them.

How about just tinting EVERYONE's vision to dark red?

Changing the colors of sectors with tag 0 will change the color of all untagged sectors, so it should work with brightness too. All you need is a for loop.
The REAL problem is that OpenGL users can override the sector brightness, but sv_forceogldefaults should solve that. I have an idea for a sound track if this gets implemented.

The annoying part is that GL defaults are really fucking dark.

What I mean is that in AOW01 - you can see the entire map in software from one end to another. (Or well, most of it.)
In GL? Good luck seeing anything further than when the fog starts to appear. (Which is pretty damn close.)

It's supposed to be like that. If too dark, we may brighten the map overall.

I play with 'Dark' sector lighting with fog and it seems fine for me.

Actually AOW has its own color map lump which brightens out sectors. The GL renderer does not read this, so sectors appear brighter in software.

+1 for software perks.
