I'd think that only the sniper rifle would get a scope/zoom. The rest would require free aim. Which also basically means that all guns would require more skill and make fighting more closeranged and actionpacked :D

I'd believe Rifle and Laser Chaingun would be long range weapons too..

Rifle yes, LCG could be classified as mid-to-far-range weapon.
It's pretty simple: If guass, rifle and LCG get scope along with the sniper rifle, you wouldn't change a thing except for the fact that they will be using different zoom crosshairs from the ones they use now :|

Although, those 3 weapons could only have 1 zoom which would be 15% - 20% while the sniper (and binoculars!) would have toggled zoom (20%,50%,75%).

Oh btw,

Gauss rifle would definitely not get a scope, I'd intend that to be this kind of a free-aim weapon. Rifle and laser chaingun sniping isn't half as bad because you don't lose more than half your health when you get hit by the initial bullet. If you find cover quick enough, that hit will be the only one. Same goes to laser rifle.

Good point, although most maps don't support that, but that problem is map-wise.

When you combine some feature suggestions - increase speed, supression, disabling fov except for some weapons, these suggestions along with cover-support map revamps can reduce sniperfests a lot. This shall be the first step to making AOW2 tactical :)

The only weapon that should get a scope is sniper. Really. Realistically speaking (LOL REALISM) most guns lack scopes, only wtfdoyoucallthem i forget but those nubs you aim with. Too much shit goes on with aow for anything other than sniper to deserve a scope. Maybe you can give some weapons half zoom or something. FOV 20 with sniper and FOV 60 with others, such as LCG, RL, or even rifle.

Well now I'm thinking I'm wrong. Taking away FOV will actually hurt those with lower res monitors.

I don't think it'll be a huge problem unless you play in something lower than 800x600. Almost any monitor made since 2000 supports 1024x768 at the very least. The most common LCD monitors these days are like 1280x1024.

Personally, I don't think this FOV business is a huge deal. Who needs to play AOW in 640x480 anyways?

Then buy another computer. You might not have the money for a quad core monster, but you can buy something better than what you have now. Also, my old computer had shittier specs than that (256MB ram, 1.3Ghz processor, ...) and yet I could play in 1024x768 with low settings on opengl.

Running it in such a windowed mode is no excuse, I ran it that small for a long ass time with no problems.

That computer can run 1024x768/1280x1024 software without a problem. Why do you insist so much on choking your computer with OGL?

Seriously, there's a computer at my house with Windows XP and 128MB of SDRAM and a 855Mhz Celeron processor, it runs AOW on 1280x1024 at capped framerate just fine, except when there's nukes and fire everywhere.
